I came to my current beliefs about the government based on my own experience. Long ago, I was drafted into the US Army. I was in the front line. I transferred to be a supply clerk and I built a mess hall for the company. And then I handled all the ammunition and all the supplies.
I feel strongly to state that no wars are legitimate. All wars are started by people with money. I feel that I was caught up the machine at the time and did my service but it really feels like I wasted my time.
There were a few good things that came out of my experience. I developed self control. My mind became open to new ideas. But overall, this has affected my life in a negative way. I feel grateful that although my peers tend to be alcohol and drug abusers and even suicidal, I have remained clear from these pitfalls. Meanwhile my experience with the VA is really bad and getting worse. They treat you like dogs. For Christ sake, we served the country and this is what we get for appreciation.
Getting back to civilian life has been rough. I keep my service to my country private for the most part as I don’t want to bring it up. But there have been a few times where I used it to my advantage. Being a veteran does have its advantages sometimes in restaurants or with women.
My political philosophy is aptly-expressed in my song, “Blood Money.” The inspiration for this song was a creative way to deal with all these feelings. Since I’m a veteran and I’ve been one for many years, I’ve also written another song, called “Never Really Home” that deals with the many issues that vets encounter. Ultimately, I intend to donate a large portion of the sales of this song to Disabled American Veterans.
